April Newsletter for Residents of Studios 58
We hope that you all have had a restful Easter break and are ready to tackle exams this term. We are trying to plan a Toga Party for Saturday, 8th May, so look out for more information on that and be sure to come along and take a break from revision.
Rebooking
New for 2010/11 - Free internet and free IPTV! Plus, rebook your room between now and 15th May 2010 and get £100 cash back. To avoid any disappointments, come down to the accommodation office and have a chat with a member of staff.
Health & Safety
We have conducted room inspections recently, which went well for most, however we would like you to remind you of the importance of keeping your room clean not only for appearances sake but also for your own health. Bacteria infections are common and easily picked up from unclean surfaces, particularly in the kitchen area.
Noise
Could we also please ask all residents to be mindful of noise pollution. This term, it is more important than ever that you be considerate of your neighbours, especially at unsociable hours. This includes reducing the volume of music and television in your own studio, especially if you have bass speakers, as well as avoiding lengthy conversations in lobby areas. Please also be considerate when using the courtyard area. If you do need to make a noise complaint, please call 01179244044 to speak to the on-call resident co-ordinator.
Fire alarm
Whilst cooking in your flat, do be sure to use the extractor fan in the kitchen to prevent the smoke alarm being set off unnecessarily, as this is disruptive to all.
Rubbish
We would like to remind residents that rubbish must be taken straight to the refuse store on the ground floor and not left in corridors. Furthermore, it is imperative that you put your rubbish sacks in the bins in the refuse store and not on the floor, which makes the area unpleasant for everyone and increases the risk of rodents and ants in the building.

Events
May we first take the opportunity to wish you all a Happy Easter! We are aware that most students have been studying hard over the last few weeks for exams and coursework deadlines. As a festive reward/break we would like to arrange an Easter get together for all residents at Studios58. We want to arrange something that you will all enjoy and therefore we want your ideas!
Pop into the accommodation office to let us know. We look forward to receiving all your ideas and we will let you know who has the best ones.
Easter is coming up soon, so don’t delay if you want to be part of the Easter fun!

If you are still considering rebooking your current room or any other in Studios58, get in quick, we are now advertising to the world so be sure not to miss out! Contact the team or check the website for availability.
Competition
We are currently running a competition to design a photo portfolio and video tour of Studios58. The prize for the winner is a whopping £100, so get your thinking caps on and get creative! Please see the notice boards around the building or contact the team for further information and guidance notes.
Noise Complaints
We have been receiving a lot of complaints recently regarding noise pollution coming from certain studios. Please be considerate of your neighbours in the building, especially at unsociable hours. If your music can be heard from the other side of the building then it is too loud! If you do need to make a noise complaint, please call 01179244044 to speak to the on-call resident co-ordinator.

Please be careful when cooking in your flat as the fire alarm has been set off a number of times recently and this is highly disruptive to your fellow housemates. At night the smoke detectors are more sensitive so please be aware of this if you are cooking in the early hours. Also, when you are cooking, please keep your windows open and make use of the extractor fans. Furthermore, smoking in your flat can also set off the alarm, and is also a violation of the terms of your contract.
We would also like to take this opportunity to remind you to always lock your doors when you leave your apartment to avoid the risk of theft of your belongings.

If you have ideas for events you would like to hold, come and speak to one of them when they are working in the office of an evening between 17.00 and 19.00. We want to organise events that you want to take part in so please get involved and tell us what you want!

Should you receive any information underneath your door please bring the flyer down to the accommodation office and we shall take the appropriate action to eliminate this.
